Delone Targete
I was born and raised in Jamaica. My family, my friend, and myself visited Jamaica to attend my brother’s funeral. While we were there, Hurricane Melissa struck. Seeing the destruction, I could not believe my eyes. It felt like a nightmare up to now.
Words cannot explain the devastation I saw.
Homes were dismantled and blown away, rooftops were ripped apart and scattered all over. The fruit trees (my favorites of Jamaica) were laid down flat on the ground; none were spared. In my estimation, the place looked just like a “war zone.”
This was nothing I could have imagined. We were fortunate that our lives were spared, and we give thanks to our Creator every day, and we continue to pray for our fellow Jamaicans. So many are homeless and without food, water, and light.
After experiencing all that, I feel called to help in any way I can. My family and close friends have come together with me, and we are simply opening our hearts to anyone who feels moved to lend a hand as Jamaica rebuilds.
If you choose to give, know that your kindness will touch lives in a very real way. Thank you.
