My name is Raquel Arty, and I am honored to be a part of Rebuild Jamaica Now. My heart and soul belong to Jamaica. My roots are there, my family is there, and it will always be my home away from home. I also operate a small farming business in Jamaica, so I have seen first-hand how deeply our communities and our food systems have been affected.

I just left Jamaica before Hurricane Melissa struck, after a short trip visiting my sister, extended family and checking up on my business. It is horrifying to see that parts of the country I just visited are now in shambles. My family and friends are directly affected, and in any way I can help, I want to be of service.

The devastation from the recent hurricane has been truly heartbreaking. Homes, farms, and entire livelihoods have been torn apart. I am committed to doing everything I can to ensure that Rebuild Jamaica Now plays a real role in restoring and rebuilding the island we love—stronger, safer, and more resilient than before.
